Who's Who scams

Along with the fake Discount Health Insurance offers, super sale Florida Vacation scams and roofing flyers that I receive in my fax, I also receive the typical “Who’s Who” scam. Do I really have to say it? These are scams, one of the oldest ways to pry money from your bank account.  Hell, I can’t remember how many TV cop shows and sitcoms had episodes based on this scam.  But people still fall for it.

Can the wording be any more vague? “You are established and accomplished in your chosen field…”  What field?  They have no idea.”Your years of accomplishment” – in what and for how long?

But then again, if you are desperate enough, that insecure, or  missing a chunk of your  cerebellum, go ahead and waste your money.  Or do what I do.  If they include a toll-free fax number and request that you return the form, fax it back.  But first color it 90% black (or just use black paper) and fax it back in photo quality. It takes from four to eight minutes per page.  I sent the most recent scammer 10 pages, 10 times.  It took 90 minutes per set, 900 minutes total. Even at the best rate, I’m costing him at least $50 when I do this.

Remember – I have his permission to fax him. He initiated contact, he provided his fax, and he requested I fax him.

Try it.  Yes, you tie up your fax for a few hours, but you can do it when it’s slow.  My fax holds 30 sheets in fax out bin.  When I leave for the evening, I’ll send them.  Often the fax will send a few pages and fail, then try again from the start.  I’ve returned in the morning to find the same job sending.  Yep – 12 hours of toll free time.

Now I’ll off to hit “redial” and send 20 more pages…..
